IMMACULATA, Pa. –
Chris Conlan picked up a singles win as Immaculata University's men's tennis team was defeated by Penn State Abington on Tuesday afternoon, 8-1, in non-league play.
Conlan, in his first season with the squad, picked up his first collegiate singles win at sixth singles as he came back from dropping the first set (4-6) to Ross Epstein. Conlan rallied to win the second set, 6-4, and force a tie-breaker. Conlan controlled the tie-breaker from the start, and won 10-6 to claim the point for the Mighty Macs.
All of Immaculata's (0-3) singles player took games off their Nittany Lion opponents.
Nick Tarlecki and
Demetrios Vlahos fell at one and two singles, respectively, 6-3, 6-3.
Eric Schmidt's foe got the better of him 6-2, 6-2 at the third spot. Mike Hermansen and Steve Beaver fell in the fourth and fifth positions, 6-0, 6-2.
Penn State Abington (2-2) had started the match by winning all three doubles points.
Immaculata hosts Alvernia on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
