Men's Soccer Downed By Widener

Box Score

SWARTHMORE, Pa.
– A quick strike by Widener in the opening minutes of the match was all the Pride needed as Immaculata University's men's soccer team was defeated by Widener University, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon in the Swarthmore Alumni Classic.

The Pride (2-0) wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard as Brad Ziegler scored just 1:23 into the contest. Widener made the score 2-0 at the break as Dan Lorenzet netted a goal with just 46 seconds remaining in the first half.

Widener iced the game in the 59th minute with the final tally of the match from Derek Brubaker.

Immaculata goalkeeper Joshua Garcia made 11 stops during the match. Widener goalie Jakub Valdner was forced to make just four stops.

Widener held a 21-7 advantage in shots and a 7-4 lead in corner kicks during the contest.

Kameron Teel got off two shots to lead the team, and five other Mighty Macs all had an opportunity to score.

“We gave up two critical goals during critical times in the first half,” said Immaculata head coach Adrian Cox. “I just hope that we can bounce back and play a better game tomorrow against a tough, ranked Swarthmore team.”

Immaculata will meet host Swarthmore tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m.
