IMMACULATA, Pa. - Immaculata University's men's tennis team fell to visiting Baptist Bible College, 8-1, on Saturday afternoon in a Colonial States Athletic Conference match.
Immaculata (0-8, 0-4 CSAC) lost doubles action but not before making things interesting at the first and third positions. The Mighty Macs duo of
Nick Tarlecki and
Dave Harlan battled Matthew Benjamin and Samuel Meade at the top spot before the Defenders' pair put them away 9-7. Immaculata's third doubles team of Mike Pancoast and
Mike Tyrell only lost to Arron McCauley and Zachary Tornow, 8-6, after being down 3-0 early in the match.
Tyrell picked up Immaculata's point of the match at fifth doubles as he made quick work of McCauley, 6-1, 6-0.
Immaculata also challenged Baptist Bible (5-3, 4-2 CSAC) at one, three, four and six singles. Tarlecki lost to Samuel by identical scores of 6-4.
Eric Schmidt, playing third singles for the Mighty Macs, won the first set, 6-4, but was unable to hold on as Aaron Hixcon claimed the final two sets, 6-0, 6-4.
Demetrios Vlahos forced his first set against Benjamin at the fourth spot into a tie-breaker, but Vlahos eventually lost the set and match, 7-6, 6-2. Pancoast put up a hard-fought effort in the sixth position against Michael Brandon. After losing the opening set, 6-4, Pancoast made his best attempt to force the match into a third set, but was unable to hold on as Brandon pulled out a 7-5 win to seal the set and match.
Immaculata hosts Arcadia on Monday at 3:30 in a non-league match.
