GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Gwynedd-Mercy College defeated Immaculata University, 2-1, in a women's soccer Colonial States Athletic Conference match on Tuesday afternoon.
With the win, the Griffins (9-8-1, 7-3 CSAC) earn the four-seed in the CSAC Tournament, while the Mighty Macs (7-10-1, 5-5 CSAC) claim the fifth seed. The two squads will meet in a re-match of today's contest on Monday, Nov. 1, in the quarterfinals of the conference postseason.
Gwynedd-Mercy scored in the 37th minute as Sarah Cayer netted the goal. The Griffins maintained their 1-0 lead at halftime, and it remained that way until 13 minutes into the second half when Kirstyn Varas scored an insurance tally.
Immaculata got a goal back in the 88th minute when Kim Steinke scored unassisted.
Immaculata's Jessica Gaburo made five saves in the loss. Gwynedd-Mercy's Kristie Pollock played the first 87 minutes shutting down the Mighty Macs.
