ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Cameron Gettel converted a pair of first-half penalty kicks as Elizabethtown College defeated Immaculata University, 8-2, in men's soccer action at a rainy Ira R. Herr Field Saturday night.
After Gettel opened the scoring with his first penalty-kick goal at 6:55, Immaculata (1-4-3 overall) tied the game at 14:31 as
Alan Lorentz's free kick deflected off the wall and found the far corner of the net. Luke Mitchell put the Blue Jays (8-1-0 overall) back on top at 18:32 as he fired home a centering pass from Erik Weber, and Gettel converted his second penalty kick 12 minutes later to push the Blue Jay lead to 3-1.
The Mighty Macs cut the deficit to 3-2 with 4:34 left in the first half as a free kick by Lorentz was centered to
Michael Moore, who fired home the goal.
Elizabethtown used a five-goal outburst over the final 23 minutes of the game to put it out of reach.
Six other players scored goals for the Blue Jays, who finished with a 28-6 advantage in shots over the Mighty Macs.
Eric Carr played the first 81:30 and made no saves for the Blue Jays, while Dan Saint-Pol played the final 8:30.
Stone Gahagan tallied eight saves in net for the Mighty Macs.
