ASTON, Pa. - Neumann College hit four of its last five foul shots in the final minute to stave off a determined Inmmaculata squad, 57-56, Thursday night in CSAC women's basketball action inside Bruder Gymnasium.
Immaculata (9-12, 5-7 CSAC) freshman
Kacie O'Neill nailed a 3-pointer at the buzzer, but Neumann (15-7, 10-3) held a four-point advantage to narrowly avert the upset bid by the Mighty Macs.
Dominique Murray posted 17 points and 12 rebounds, and
Kelly Brown scored 12 points to lead Immaculata.
Courtney Dixon scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds.
Neumann went to the line 38 times in the contest, converting 21 of those attempts. Brittany Whetts scored a game-high 27 points and added 14 rebounds. She was 13-for-20 from the charity stripe in the tilt.
Immaculata takes on the College of Notre Dame Saturday at 1 p.m. in its annual "Pink Zone" game at Alumnae Hall. The Mighty Macs will be decked out in pink uniforms for the occasion.
Immaculata welcomes back former head coach Cathy Rush in a pre-game ceremony celebrating her induction into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame this past fall in Springfield, Mass. Many of her players from the Mighty Macs hey-day in the early 70's when Immaculata won three straight national championships will be in attendance to congratulate their former head coach in person.
