IMMACULATA, Pa. - Immaculata University received two first-half goals from
Daniel Arteglier and
Kameron Teel as the third-seeded Mighty Macs defeated the sixth-seeded Centenary College Cyclones, 2-0, in Colonial States Athletic Conference quarterfinal men's soccer action Tuesday night at Draper Walsh Stadium.
Immaculata (9-6-4) moves on to face second-seeded Neumann University, who received an opening round bye, in the semifinals on Thursday at 4 p.m. This marks the first time in the three seasons of making the conference postseason tournament that the Mighty Macs has advanced beyond its opening-round contest.
Arteglier's tally came just eight minutes into the contest as he banged home a deflection off the left post. Teel found the net in the 43rd minute, set up on a feed from
Michael Nesci, that he floated into the goal.
The Mighty Macs' defense again played well. The Immaculata backs allowed just five Centenary shots in the contest to record the team's fifth shutout of the season.
Immaculata goalkeeper Stone Gahagan made three saves to earn the win. Cyclones' goalkeeper Jason Rogers stopped just one shot in the loss.
The other semifinal will take play at top-seeded Cabrini, as the Cavaliers host No. 5-seed Gwynedd-Mercy at 4 p.m. Thursday. The Griffins' advanced to the semifinals by defeating fourth-seeded Marywood, 2-1, Tuesday night.
