Immaculata Men's Soccer Slips Past Marywood, 1-0

SCRANTON, Pa. – Immaculata University's Alan Lorentz scored in the 10th minute of Wednesday's Colonial States Athletic Conference men's soccer contest against Marywood University, and hung on to claim a 1-0 victory.

With the win, Immaculata moves into a tie for third place with Marywood in the conference standings with 16 points, as both sides now sport 5-2-1 CSAC records.

Immaculata (7-6-4) was able to capitalize on a restart 9:42 into the game. Following a Marywood foul, Lorentz drilled a free kick from 25 yards out that skipped past Pacers' goalkeeper Jared El Gayeh to give the Mighty Macs the early lead.

Marywood (7-7-2) had six shots and six corner kicks during the opening half, but the Mighty Macs' defense and goalkeeper Stone Gahagan were able to keep the hosts off the board.

The second half featured chances at both ends of the field though neither team was able to find the back of the net.

Immaculata held a 10-9 edge in shots, while Marywood finished the contest with a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Gahagan made four saves for Immaculata to notch the shutout while El Gayeh finished the game with two saves for the Pacers.

Immaculata closes out its regular season on Saturday afternoon with a CSAC game at Baptist Bible. Kickoff between the Mighty Macs and Defenders is scheduled for 1 p.m.
