IMMACULATA, Pa. – Jayme Lenosky racked up 10 kills but the Immaculata volleyball team lost a five-set thriller to Delaware Valley (23-25, 8-25, 25-21, 25-13, 15-13). The Aggies were forced to win the final three sets for the victory after trailing after the first two sets. Immaculata drops to 1-3 overall, while Delaware Valley improves to 5-1.
In the first set, Immaculata and Delaware valley engaged in a see-saw battle which featured numerous ties. The Mighty Macs led 15-10 when the Aggies reeled off six straight points to take a 16-15 advantage. The two teams went point-for-point and eventually tied the game, 22-22. Immaculata pushed its advantage to two, 24-22, on kills by Lenosky and Lisa Bifulco. The Aggies won the next point but Nicole Preziuso gave the Mighty Macs the opening set as she smacked down a kill.
In the second set, Immaculata raced out to a commanding 19-7 lead, and held on to take the set, 25-8, and extend its match lead to 2-0.
The Delaware Valley hitters wouldn't fold as the Aggies smacked down a set-high 12 kills in the third set which lifted them to a 25-21 victory. In the fourth set, Delaware Valley wore down the Mighty Macs, taking the set 25-13, as the momentum began to swing in the Aggies way.
In the decisive fifth set, Immaculata went ahead 6-5, but allowed Delaware Valley to win five straight points and pull ahead 10-6. The Mighty Macs eventually tied the set at 10-10, and the set was still at a stalemate at 13-13. Delaware Valley went on to take the game 15-13 off two Immaculata hitting errors.
Lenosky finished with 10 kills and five digs. Bifulco compiled eight kills, eight digs and five assists, while Terri Reynolds and Preziuso each registered six kills. Reynolds also added 13 digs to her effort. Kathleen Haefner set up 21 kills and added 17 digs for her first career double-double performance, and a team-high five service aces. Courtney Sahm contributed 10 digs.
The Mighty Macs next host Philadelphia Biblical on Tuesday, Sept. 16, in the conference opener at 7 p.m.
