IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata's field hockey team fell short in its rally to defeat Marywood, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at Draper Walsh Stadium. The Pacers broke open a 1-1 halftime score with two tallies in the first 10 minutes of the second half and held on for the win.
The Mighty Macs dropped to 3-8 overall and 1-4 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, while the Pacers improved to 7-5 overall, 4-1 in the CSAC.
Immaculata broke through first and got on the board at 24:29 as Alyssa Drescher scored on a pass from Emily Hallett.
It appeared that the Mighty Macs would take the advantage into the break, when the Pacers found the back of the cage with 4.4 seconds remaining before halftime. Mary Potorski slipped the ball past Bridget Dougherty to knot the score at 1-all at the half.
Marywood came out of the break on the momentum of Potorski's goal, scoring two tallies during the first 10 minutes of the second half. Emily Wentzel put the Pacers ahead, 2-1, at 40:17, and Caitlin Hadzimichalis scored just three minutes later for a 3-1 advantage.
The Mighty Macs tried to string together a late comeback as Lauren Bigos drew Immaculata within one goal, 3-2, at 67:02. However, that would be all the scoring the Mighty Macs would get.
Dougherty played all 70 minutes in the cage for Immaculata, making five saves. Jennifer Miller played a complete game recording six saves for the Pacers.
Immaculata travels to 14th-ranked Elizabethtown on Monday, Oct. 13, at 4:30 p.m.
