Immaculata University men's soccer team tied Alvernia College 2-2 in double overtime in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) action on an unseasonably warm Saturday, October 6, in Draper Walsh Stadium.
Sophomore Mike Tryell put the Mighty Macs on the board first with a tally at 21:00 off an assist from junior Gio DeMartini. Cory Lush tied the game for the Crusaders at 1-1 with a goal at 28:13 off a pass form Tim Marcinek. Immaculata broke the tie when junior Alan Lorentz found the back of the net at 32:35 off an assist from sophomore Michael Moore. The Mighty Macs held a 2-1 lead at the half.
Alvernia's David Schaeffer recorded an unassisted goal at 69:54 to tie the game at 2-2. Both teams had its chances in the overtime sessions, including freshman Kevin Glenn. Glenn had two chances in the second overtime frame to put the game away, but Alvernia's goalkeeper Richard Kessler made a diving stop on the first shot and his second shot just sailed high over the cross bar.
The Crusaders had a scoring chance in the second overtime, but sophomore Stone Gahagan knocked the ball away to preserve the tie. Gahagan collected eight saves, while Kessler registered two.
Alvernia outshot Immaculata 18-10 and held a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks.
The Mighty Macs (6-5-1, 1-2-1) return to action on Wednesday, October 10, when they travel to face Marywood University. Kick-off is set for 4 pm.
