Terrence Stewart took over the Mighty Mac men’s basketball program on July 10, 2012 and just finished his fourth season as the head coach in 2015-16. He will begin his fifth season at the helm of the men’s basketball program in the 2016-17 campaign.
Thus far, Stewart has compiled a 45-59 record overall and a 39-33 CSAC record in four seasons as head coach, including four consecutive appearances in the CSAC postseason. The Mighty Macs made the playoffs as a number four seed in his first two seasons and hosted a game, and they solidified the sixth seed in both the 2014-15 and 2015-16 postseasons.
In his first season at the helm at Immaculata, the Mighty Macs went 12-14 overall with an 11-7 mark in CSAC play. Immaculata finished fourth in the conference which gave them their first home CSAC playoff game since 2010. In 2013, the Mighty Macs had one player named to the First Team All-CSAC and one named Honorable Mention. Men’s basketball also added seven members to the 2012-13 Winter/Spring CSAC All-Academic Team in Stewart’s first season.
In 2013-14, Immaculata went 11-15 with a 9-9 record in league play. They finished fourth in the CSAC for the second straight season and again hosted a CSAC Quarterfinal game. Stewart mentored Mamadou Diakite to a Second Team All-CSAC selection and they had six team members named to the 2013-14 Winter/Spring CSAC All-Academic team. The Mighty Macs also had a program first when they played a road game at Division I Lafayette College in December, the first in IU history.
In 2014-15, Stewart guided the Mighty Macs to a 12-14 campaign overall and a 10-8 mark in CSAC play, which was good enough for his third consecutive trip to the postseason. For the second year in a row, Stewart helped senior Mamadou Diakite earn Second Team All-CSAC and the Immaculata Most Outstanding Senior Athlete Award. During the season, IU swept Cabrini for the first time in program history and compiled a home record of 8-2. Off the court, the Mighty Macs had seven players named to the 2014-15 Winter/Spring CSAC All-Academic Team.
In 2015-16, the Mighty Macs went 10-16 overall with a 9-9 mark in the CSAC to lock up the sixth seed in the postseason. Stewart guided junior Roy Ferrell Jr. to Honorable Mention All-CSAC recognition. Stewart also saw the junior Matt Simon break the mark for made three pointers in a career. The team earned the CSAC Team Academic Award for the first time in the team’s history.
Stewart arrived at Immaculata having spent the three seasons with the LaSalle University men’s basketball program serving as the video coordinator and assistant director of operations from 2010-12. In his role with the Explorers, Stewart worked with the coaching staff to prepare scouting reports, coordinate film exchange and assist in coordinating recruiting visits.
Prior to joining the staff at LaSalle, Stewart was the head coach of the East Coast Elite 17U AAU team during 2009-10.
Stewart played professional basketball overseas at the highest levels of international competition for 10 seasons. He ended his professional playing career in Spain with CAI Zaragoza. He also played in France, Germany, Israel, Russia, Belgium, Portugal, Argentina, Uruguay and Venezuela. During his professional career, he received first-team All-Import honors three times and was four times chosen as a second-team All-Import selection playing in various leagues.
Stewart played collegiately at Rowan University from 1992 to 1996. The Profs reached the NCAA Tournament during all four seasons he was on the team, including three appearances in the national semifinals. Rowan captured the national championship in 1996, and Stewart was named the most valuable player of the tournament.
Stewart earned All-NJAC honors on three occasions, including first team recognition in both 1995 and 1996. He was selected as the NJAC player of the year his junior campaign during 1994-95. Stewart finished his playing career at Rowan as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,628 points. That mark stood until 2008.
For his efforts, Stewart was inducted into the Philadelphia Area Small College Coaches Association Hall of Fame on April 8, 2014.
Stewart earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Thomas Edison College.
