Andrew Alvarez

Andrew Alvarez begins his fourth year with the Immaculata University Department of Athletics and Recreation as the Sports Information Director in 2025-26. Alvarez helps lead communication efforts for all 22 varsity sports. He assists in supervising department interns, and work-study students, and the execution of the school’s award programs both regionally and nationally. 

During his first two years, Alvarez has served as the primary contact for all the Mighty Macs varsity sports while also serving on multiple University committees. He oversees the Athletics Department website, and web streaming endeavors, producing athletic event web streams on the Atlantic East Network. He writes press releases, and game recaps, and generates digital game programs for home games. 

Alvarez added play-by-play announcing to his duties during the 2023-24 school year, calling Immaculata men’s and women’s basketball, softball, and baseball games. Alvarez was on the call for the Atlantic East Network’s stream for the 2024 Atlantic East Conference Championship game in Winchester, Va., when the Immaculata baseball team won their third consecutive conference championship. 

Served as the Host Sports Information Director for the Atlantic East Conference Baseball Championships and Track and Field Championships in 2023, and the Inaugural Atlantic East Conference Women’s Flag Football Championships in 2024. 

Alvarez traveled with the Immaculata University baseball team to cover the team at the NCAA Regionals in 2023 and 2024, and the 2024 Atlantic East Conference Championships. 

He worked as a volunteer during the 2024 NCAA Men's Lacrosse National Championships in Philadelphia, hosted by Drexel University at Lincoln Financial Field. He was the Post Game Notes writer for the NCAA Division III and Division II National Championship Games and was the locker room steward for the University of Maryland for the NCAA Division I National Championship Game. 

Before his position at Immaculata, Alvarez worked part-time for West Chester University's Athletics Department in Game and Event management after completing his Master of Public Administration with a Graduate Certificate in Sports Management and Athletics from West Chester University in May of 2022. As part of his master’s degree program, Alvarez completed an internship in sports information and game management at the Immaculata University Department of Athletics and Recreation during the winter of 2020. 

Alvarez earned his bachelor’s degree in communications with a minor in Athletic Coaching from Millersville University in December 1994. While at Millersville, Alvarez was a four-year member of the Ice Hockey Club serving as Club President, and served on the University sports club council. Following his time at Millersville, he worked for multiple teams in Minor League Baseball and Ice Hockey working in media and community relations.  

Served as a Service Supervisor, and Pro Shop Coordinator for the University of Delaware Ice Arenas from 1999-2001. 

Alvarez is a member of the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA), Eastern Athletic Communications Association (EAST-COMM formerly ECAC-SIDA), and the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA). 

Alvarez has been a long-time youth ice hockey coach in the area having coached with youth club programs, the Quakers, Valley Forge Minutemen, Philadelphia Little Flyers, and Team Philadelphia, and high school programs Strath Haven, St. Joseph’s Prep, Downingtown East, and Great Valley. Helped coach Team Philadelphia's 16 AA team to a Quarterfinal appearance at the 2022 USA Hockey Tier II 16 & Under National Championships in Troy, MI.
