IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata softball team battled throughout the afternoon but dropped both games of a non-conference doubleheader to Delaware Valley on Tuesday at IU Softball Field. The Mighty Macs fell by scores of 8–4 in game one and 11–2 in five innings in game two.
Game 1: Delaware Valley 8, Immaculata 4
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST DELAWARE VALLEY IN GAME ONE
- Immaculata came out strong early, building a 4–0 advantage through four innings. The Mighty Macs broke through in the second inning, as Naila Valdez and Madison Formica each delivered RBI singles to give Immaculata a 2–0 lead.
- The Macs added to their advantage in the fourth inning when Alexis Andrada ripped a two-run double to right center, scoring Carlee Karcher and Valdez to extend the lead to 4–0.
- Delaware Valley, however, responded in the fifth inning with a three-run home run to cut the deficit to one, before taking control in the sixth with a four-run inning.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Despite collecting 11 hits, Immaculata was unable to capitalize on multiple scoring opportunities, leaving 11 runners on base in the contest.
- Andrada led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance and two RBIS.
- Formica added a pair of hits.
- Karcher also contributed with a double and reached base twice.
- Congratulations to Natalie Tassoni for her first collegiate hit, a single in the seventh inning.
- Jessic Vido took the loss in relief.
Game 2: Delaware Valley 11, Immaculata 2 (5 Innings)
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST DELAWARE VALLEY IN GAME TWO
- In game two, Delaware Valley struck early with a run in the first inning before capitalizing on a pair of Immaculata errors to extend the lead to 3–0.
- The Mighty Macs scattered hits throughout the game, getting multi-hit efforts from Formica and Karcher, but were unable to string together rallies against Delaware Valley starter Gemma Taggart.
- Delaware Valley broke the game open in the fifth inning, plating seven runs to take an 11–0 lead.
- Immaculata showed resilience in the bottom half of the inning, as Carlee Karcher delivered a two-run double to score Madison Formica and Kate Daly to account for the Macs' runs.
- Nadia Bhuiyan got the start and took the loss, pitching four innings, allowing six runs, three earned runs, and had four strikeouts.
