Third Quarter Surge Propels Women's Lacrosse to Victory at Delaware Valley, 12-7

DOYLESTOWN, Pa.- The Immaculata women's lacrosse team used a third-quarter surge and an all-around team effort to defeat Delaware Valley 12-7 to earn its second consecutive victory. After heading to the halftime break leading 6-5, the Mighty Macs outscored the Aggies 4-0 to take a 10-5 lead into the fourth quarter.
 
Alexa Marczak and Elizabeth Mahmud each scored four goals, and Julia Pohl distributed five assists. Abigail Guarneri made 12 saves in goal for the Mighty Macs.
 
With the win, Immaculata improves to 2-8 overall, while Delaware Valley falls to 4-5 overall.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST DELAWARE VALLEY
  • Immaculata battled through an early back-and-forth stretch as both teams traded goals throughout the opening 15 minutes. After falling behind twice, the Mighty Macs responded each time with goals from Aaliya Piperato, Alexa Marczak, and Keira Benoit. Delaware Valley scored in the final seconds to even the game at 3–3 heading into the second.
  • Immaculata's offense began to find its rhythm in the second quarter. Back-to-back goals from Alexa Marczak, both assisted by Julia Pohl, gave the Macs control before Delaware Valley answered to tie the game at 5–5. Immaculata closed the half strong, as Elizabeth Mahmud converted a free-position, man-up opportunity to send the Macs into halftime with a 6–5 lead.
  • The Mighty Macs took control of the game in the third quarter, scoring four unanswered goals, highlighted by two from Elizabeth Mahmud and another man-up finish from Alexa Marczak. The Immaculata defense held Delaware Valley to just two shots in the third quarter, as Immaculata took a comfortable 10-5 lead into the fourth quarter.
  • Immaculata maintained control down the final quarter, matching Delaware Valley goal-for-goal. After the Aggies trimmed the deficit, Immaculata responded with goals by Carly Oberg and Keira Benoit to close out the 12-7 victory.
