Women's Lacrosse Stifled by DeSales Bulldogs

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Elizabeth Mahmud put up her third four-goal game of the season, but Immaculata women's lacrosse was defeated by the DeSales University Bulldogs 22-5 on Tuesday.

The Mighty Macs are 0-5 for the season. Their first AEC game will be on Saturday, March 28 versus Marywood.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST DESALES
  • The Bulldogs got on the board quickly with two goals in less than two minutes. Abigail Guarneri saved a free-position shot, and Mahmud forced a turnover, but the home team's offense continued its attack. Mahmud placed a shot past DeSales' goalie with 3:20 on the clock. Although Guarneri saved an attempt near the end of the initial 15 minutes, it was 7-1 after one.
  • Both sides countered each other's scores in the early part of the second quarter. Mahmud picked up her second goal on a man-up situation, while Samari Rodriguez got her first goal of her career on a free position. In the span of about two minutes, DeSales had scored three goals. Immaculata earned two. Each offense was relatively quiet for the remainder of the half, with DeSales leading 14-3.
  • Guarneri continued to make saves, despite a few shots turning into DeSales goals. Mahmud completed a hat trick in the third quarter, unassisted. The Bulldogs were up 19-4 through three.
  • Clare Dunfee checked in at goalie for the final 15 minutes. Immaculata's defense caused havoc in the fourth, with Bailee Neitz, Carly Oberg, and Brooke Kakowski each recording defensive turnovers. Mahmud netted one last goal in the fourth, but the Bulldogs cashed in on two goals with under one minute left. DeSales won 22-5.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Mahmud had a team-high four goals, four ground balls, and tied Neitz for two caused defensive turnovers.
  • Rodriguez logged her first goal of her career.
  • Guarneri went 45 minutes in goal and made six saves.
