READING, Pa. – Immaculata women's lacrosse took on the Alvernia University Golden Wolves on Saturday, but the Golden Wolves won 18-3.
The Mighty Macs are 0-1 for the season. Their first AEC game will be on Saturday, March 28 versus Marywood.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ALVERNIA
- Even though Elizabeth Mahmud won the opening draw control, Alvernia's offense converted a clear and scored their first goal of the day. The Golden Wolves scored six goals in the opening 15 minutes before Mahmud put one in the net off an Alvernia turnover. Abigail Guarneri stood tall in goal by making multiple saves, and the Mighty Macs forced a green card on the home team. It was 6-1 after one.
- The Golden Wolves' offense continued their attack in the second quarter. Guarneri saved a few shots, but Alvernia got six more goals past Immaculata's defense. Although the Mighty Macs saw multiple successful clears near the end of the quarter, they faced a 12-1 deficit going into the break.
- After an Alvernia goal to begin the third quarter, Immaculata answered back with Mahmud taking the draw control and scoring moments later. Aaliya Piperato had the assist. Despite the Golden Wolves adding to their lead, both teams were turning the ball over. Bailee Neitz and Guarneri contributed caused turnovers defensively. Alvernia was up 14-2 through three.
- Despite the fact that Guarneri faced more shots in the fourth quarter, the Mighty Macs were winning draw controls. Following a successful clear, Piperato broke through Alvernia's defense for her first goal of the season. However, the Golden Wolves grabbed the 18-3 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Mahmud led the team with two goals and seven draw controls.
- Piperato had one goal and one assist.
- Morgan Barnes scooped up a team-best three ground balls.
- Guarneri went the full 60 minutes in goal and made 13 saves.
