WINTER HAVEN,Fl.- The Immaculata baseball team outlasted St.John Fisher in extras on their way to a 4-1 victory in 10 innings.
It was a pitcher's duel this afternoon at Polk State College as the Mighty Macs and the Cardinals were scoreless heading into the 8
th. The Mighty Macs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top half of the inning when
Josh Crowding scored on a wild pitch. The Cardinals would tie it up with a solo shot. The game would remain scoreless until extra innings, which saw
Ryan Struble leadoff the inning with a double.
Steven Theisen would follow that up with a single of his own.
Joey Sacco would draw a walk, bringing up
Louis Sharp.
Sharp would tally a sacrifice fly to drive in the go ahead run in Struble, but the Mighty Macs were not done there. Freshman
Nick Turnage pinch-hit with two runners in scoring position and drove a ball back up the middle to break the game open, plating Theisen and Sacco.
Despite his strong outing on the mound,
Jason Hughes picked up the no decision in the contest. Hughes surrendered one earned run over seven dominant innings on the bump, where he struck out 10.
John Fitzpatrick would take over for Hughes in the 8
th, going 1-2-3 while striking out one.
Thomas DeSarno earned his first win of the year, allowing zero hits and striking out three in his two innings of relief work.
The Immaculata baseball team is back in action tomorrow, March 9
th when they take on Concordia Minnesota at the Lake Myrtle Baseball Complex.
