Macs Fall to Swarthmore in Hard Fought Match

SWARTHMORE, Pa.- The Immaculata University women's lacrosse team fell to Swarthmore 16-11 in a hard-fought non-conference road game on Wednesday evening. 

Immaculata was led tonight by Tess Liberatoscioli who scored five goals and had three assists to go along with eight ground balls, four caused turnovers, and three draw controls. Jacki Murray, and Kaitlyn Klitchko each scored two goals. Ava Hoffman and Cara Strickland each scored one goal. Liza Laxton added two assists. Goalkeeper Abigail Guarneri made seven saves and one ground ball. 

In the first quarter, the game remained scoreless for the first six and a half minutes, as Immaculata goalkeeper Abigail Guarneri made a couple of big saves early. Swarthmore would open the scoring, netting the game's first three goals. Tessa Lilberatoscioli got Immaculata on the board scoring with 6:48 remaining in the quarter. Liberatoscioli scored her second goal with 1:54 remaining, then assisted on a goal by Jacki Murray with only 0:04 remaining in the quarter. Swarthmore would lead 6-3 after the first quarter of play. 

Swarthmore would score the first three goals of the second quarter to extend their lead to 9-3. Tessa Liberatoscioli would score her third goal of the game on a free position shot with 7:22 remaining in the quarter. Swarthmore would lead 11-4 at halftime. 

In the third quarter, Swarthmore would score early to take a 12-4 lead. Immaculata would respond with goals by Ava Hoffman off an assist from Tessa Liberatoscioli, and Cara Strickland to cut Swarthmore's lead to 12-6. Jacki Murray would score off an assist from Liza Laxton with 3:02 remaining in the quarter. After three quarters Immaculata would trail 13-7. 

In the fourth quarter, Swarthmore scored the first two goals to extend their lead to 15-7. Kaitlyn Klitchko would score off an assist from Tessa Liberatoscioli to cut the lead to 15-8. After Swarthmore scored to increase the lead to 16-8, Tessa Liberatoscioli scored her fifth goal of the game 0:33 seconds later to cut the lead to 16-10. Kaitlyn Klitchko would wrap up the scoring with her second goal of the game on an assist from Liza Laxton.  

Though Swarthmore outshot Immaculata 31-29 for the game, Immaculata outshot Swarthmore 19-11 and outscored them 7-5 in the second half of the game.

The Immaculata University women's lacrosse team (5-3, 0-0 Atlantic East) will be back in action on Friday, March 22nd when they host Lebanon Valley College at Draper Walsh Stadium at 4:00 PM.
