IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata University baseball team was back in action as the hosted Swarthmore College on Saturday afternoon. Immaculata fell to Swarthmore 11-10 in 10innings.
Immaculata opened the scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning when
Nick Turnage singled to center field to score
Ryan Struble and
Josh Crowding as Immaculata took a 2-0 lead.
Swarthmore would respond with a single run in the fifth, two runs in the sixth, and a single run in the seventh inning.
In the eighth inning,
Joey Sacco singled to center field scoring
Hunter Weitzel to cut Swarthmore's lead to 4-3.
Swarthmore would score six times in the top of the ninth inning to take a 10-3 lead.
Immaculata refused to go quietly in the bottom of the ninth. With one out,
Josh Crowding and
Ryan Struble drew walks. After getting the second out,
Nick Turnage singled to right field to load the bases for
Jay Lawrence who singled to right field to score Crowding, and re-load the bases.
Sal Serici singled to left field to score Struble and Turnage.
Joey Sacco drew a walk to load the bases again for
Shawn Haut who hit a double to left field to score Serici, and Joey Mazzone who pinch ran for
Jay Lawrence.
Joey Wright would follow with a single to right field that scored Sacco and Kristina Saucedo who pinch ran for Shawn haut to tie the score at 10-10. All seven runs in the inning scored after there were two outs. Immaculata was unable to plate the winning run, and the game went to extra innings.
Swarthmore would score a run a run in the top of the tenth to take an 11-10 lead.
In the bottom of the tenth,
Ryan Struble doubled to left center, and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Robert Woodword.
Nick Turnage drew a walk and stole second base to put the potential go ahead run at second base with one out. Swarthmore was able to retire the final two batters to close out the 11-10.
Starter
Jason Hughes earned a no-decision going seven innings, allowing eight hits, four runs, three earned runs, and struck out nine.
Alexander Singer (1-2) took the loss in relief.

th when they visit Lebanon Valley College for a non-conference game at 3:30 PM.
