ASTON, Pa.- The Immaculata women's lacrosse team, the fifth seed traveled to play at the fourth seed Neumann in the first round of the Atlantic East Conference Tournament on Saturday afternoon. Immaculata fell to Neumann 24-9.
Neumann got the scoring going early in the first quarter building a 5-0 lead.
Liza Laxton cut the lead to 5-2 scoring a pair of goals separated by only thirty seconds.
Jacki Murray,
Ava Hoffman, and
Cara Strickland added goals to pull Immaculata within two goals at 7-5 with only eleven seconds remaining in the quarter. Neumann was able to win the draw control and go down and score before time expired to carry an 8-5 lead into the second quarter.
In the second quarter,
Jacki Murray scored with 9:42 remaining in the quarter to pull Immaculata back to three down at 9-6. Neumann would respond scoring six straight goals to take a 15-6 lead.
Jacki Murray would score late in the half and the Macs trailed 15-7 at half-time.
In the second half of the game,
Jacki Murray would score the Mighty Macs final two goals of the game, as Neumann closed out the win 24-9 to advance to the Atlantic East Semifinals.
Jacki Murray led the Macs offensively today with five goals and two assists. Murray also had a game high 10 draw controls.
Liza Laxton scored two goals and added five draw controls.
Ava Hoffman and
Cara Strickland scored goals for the Macs. On the defensive side
Kelsey Caldarelli had four ground balls, and
Ava Hoffman had three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Amelia Slick had 11 saves in goal.
The Immaculata women's lacrosse team now concludes their 2023 season with a 2-4 record in conference play and an overall record of 4-12.
