Hughes Pitches Three Hit Shutout as Immaculata Downs Ursinus 7-0

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.- Jason Hughes went the distance pitching a three-hit shutout as Immaculata got back in the win column defeating Ursinus College 7-0 on Friday afternoon. Hughes was outstanding on the mound walking only one and striking out eight as Immaculata raised its record to 6-5 on the season.

The game remained scoreless until the top of the seventh inning when Justin Klemick scored on a sacrifice fly from Joey Wright to put Immaculata up 1-0.

Immaculata would add to their lead in the top of the eighth when Ryan Struble hit a solo home run to left field. This was the first home of the season for the Mighty Macs.

The Macs would put the game out of reach in the top of the ninth inning, scoring five runs. Josh Crowding walked with the bases loaded to score Maddox Stern. Joey Sacco would clear the bases on a ball to left that was ruled an error on the left fielder that scored Frank Margiotta, Joey Wright, and Josh Crowding. The Macs would add on another run when Robert Woodward laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Joey Sacco to carry a 7-0 lead into the bottom of the ninth.

Jason Hughes shut down Ursinus in the bottom of the ninth ending the game when the Ursinus hitter chased a pitch in the dirt, and Josh Crowding threw out the runner at first to complete the strikeout to give the Macs the 7-0 win.

Joey Sacco led the Mighty Macs offensively going 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. Ryan Struble went 2-for-3 with a solo home run. Josh Crowding, Joey Wright, and Robert Woodward each drove in runs for the Macs.
