Macs Drop Non-Conference Action Against Mariners

IMMACULATA, Pa. –  An early lead was not enough as the Immaculata baseball team dropped its non-conference matchup against the Mitchell College Mariners 9-2 on Tuesday afternoon. The Mighty Macs now drop to a 23-11 overall record on the season while maintaining a strong 12-3 record in Atlantic East play.

Steven Theisen kicked off the bottom of the first for the Macs with a one-out single into left field. Two batters later, Josh Crowding reached base on an error by the third basemen, giving the Macs two base runners with two outs. Louis Sharp then hit a single left-center field, scoring Theisen and moving Crowding to third. The Macs then forced a balk from the Mariners' pitcher, scoring Crowding to give the Macs a 2-0 lead after the first frame.

One run scored for the Mariners in the top of the third on a throwing error as the score stood at 2-1. Later, in the top of the sixth, an RBI double for the Mariners tied the game up at 2-2.

The Mariners then rallied in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs on the inning to claim a 5-2 advantage over the Mighty Macs. The Mariners then scored four runs across the eighth and ninth innings, increasing their lead over the Macs to 9-2.

The Mighty Macs attempted to rally in the bottom of the ninth, with Theisen reaching on a leadoff walk. The Macs were unable to score Theisen, however, as the Mariners sealed the deal on their 9-2 victory over the Macs.
Theisen led the Macs offensively on the game, scoring one run while going 1-for-3 with one walk. Crowding picked up the Macs' other run, going 1-for-4 on the game. Stephen Dibatista pitched six innings in the start for the Macs, striking out four Mariner batters while allowing one earned run.

The Mighty Macs will return to action on Thursday as they travel to Marywood to open their final regular season conference series against the Pacers at 3:00 P.M.
