Crowell Hurls Complete Game as Macs Split DH at Centenary

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Immaculata baseball team split their away doubleheader with Centenary, dropping game one 3-2 before taking game two 6-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Game one began with three quiet frames as neither team could mange to score a run. The Mighty Macs, however, broke the ice in the top of the fourth inning. Jason Smiley reached on a single into right field to kick off the inning. Smiley then advanced to third base following a hit batter and a fielder's choice for the Macs, put Smiley on third and Steven Theisen on at first with one out. A failed pickoff attempt resulted in an error by the pitcher, scoring Smiley to give the Macs the 1-0 lead.

Joey Sacco then led off the top of the fifth with a double down the left field line. After moving to third on a passed ball, Sacco scored on a sacrifice fly by Joey Wright to increase the Macs' lead.

Centenary then responded in the bottom of the fifth, scoring two runs to tie the game at 2-2. Centenary then came up to bat with the seven-inning game tied in the bottom of the seventh. Centenary got one run back in the bottom of the fourth to cut Immaculata's lead to 2-1. Immaculata, however, regained the two-run advantage in the top of the fifth. Wright reached base on a two-out walk only to score after back-to-back singles from Crowding and Louis Sharp.

Later, in the top of the seventh, Crowding smacked a solo home run into left field to give the Macs a three-run lead over the Cyclones. Next inning, the Macs picked up two runs to claim a 6-1 lead.
