Pitching Triumphs in Doubleheader Victories vs. Marymount

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Immaculata baseball team took down the reigning Atlantic East Champion Marymount in both halves of their doubleheader today, taking game one 3-1 and game two 4-1.

Frank Margiotta led off game one with a walk for the Macs. After stealing second, Margiotta was in scoring position as Joey Sacco hit a double into right-center field, scoring Margiotta to put the Macs on the board. The Saints then allowed three straight walks to Joey Wright, Josh Crowding, and Louis Sharp with the latter scoring Sacco to give the Macs a 2-0 lead.

Mason Keller kept Marymount scoreless through the first five innings, allowing one run in the bottom of the sixth on his way to a seven-inning complete game shutout. On the day, he allowed one run on seven hits while walking two batters.

In the top of the seventh, Steven Theisen provided an additional insurance run for Keller, batting in Jason Smiley on a double into left-center, securing the Macs' victory in a 3-1 decision on game one.

Margiotta then stepped to the plate and hit a single into center field, scoring Smiley to give the Macs a 2-0 lead.

Following a quiet third inning, the Macs sought to extend their lead in the top of the fourth. Hunter Hall reached base on an error before Theisen reached on a third strike drop, putting two runners on for the Macs. Margiotta then loaded the bases on a single into center field. Hall then scored on a wild pitch, increasing the Macs' lead over the Saints to 3-0.
