Baseball Takes Late-Night Victory Over Wildcats

AUBURNDALE, Fl. – The Immaculata baseball team won its fourth-straight game on Tuesday night. The Macs defeated the Johnson & Wales Wildcats 13-8 in a 17-inning game that ended over seven hours after the original start time.
 
The Macs scored first in the top of the first as a grounder from Joey Wright scored Frank Margiotta.
 
Later, as the Macs found themselves down 2-1, the Macs scored three runs in the top of the fourth courtesy of RBI singles from Isaiah Payton and Margiotta, giving the Macs a 4-3 lead. The Wildcats then scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-4 lead.
 
Over the course of the seventh and eighth innings, the Macs scored two runs to tie the game up at 6-6, a score at which the game would remain through the ninth, forcing extra innings.
 
Louis Sharp and Payton both scored in the top of the 11th top break the ice in extra innings. The Wildcats, however, responded in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game back up at 8-8.
 
Isaiah Payton then highlighted a five-run inning for the Mighty Macs in the top of the seventh, hitting a bases-clearing double to give the Macs a 13-8 lead. Trevor Wagner came in in the bottom of the 17th, striking out one in a one-two-three inning to secure a save.
 
Andrew Rodriguez earned the win, pitching five shutout innings in extras for the Macs. Rodriguez allowed three hits while striking out eight batters.
 
Isaiah Payton led the Macs offensively on the game, going 4-for-8 with two doubles while scoring three runs and four RBI.
 
The Macs return to action on Wednesday as they face Rhode Island College.
