IMMACULATA, - Pa. – The Immaculata baseball team dropped its home opener against Delaware Valley 6-2 on Tuesday afternoon. Time played a factor on the game as well as the game concluded after the eighth inning due to darkness.
The Mighty Macs kicked off action in the bottom of the second.
Josh Crowding led off the inning with a double into center field. After a sacrifice bunt by
Louis Sharp put Crowding at third, he was driven in on a groundout to short by
Hunter Hall, giving the Macs an early 1-0 lead.
The Aggies and Macs then exchanged runs in the third inning. The Aggies scored one run in the top of the third on a double into center field.
Frank Margiotta then reached on a single in the bottom half of the inning, advancing to third on an error and a stolen base. After a walk from
Joey Sacco, Margiotta scored on sacrifice fly from
Joey Wright.
Delaware Valley then tied the game up at 2-2 in the top of the fourth. After loading the bases with no outs, Delaware Valley scored on a 4-6-3 double play but where unable to capitalize further on the inning.
Freshman
Jason Hughes earned his first collegiate start on the day for the Mighty Macs. Hughes pitched four innings, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out three Aggie batters.
The Aggies then added a run in the top of the sixth to claim a 3-2 lead over the Macs. They then added three runs in the top of the seventh, increasing their lead over the Macs to 6-2.
With the Mighty Macs trailing by four, the game was called following the bottom of the eighth due to darkness.
The Macs were held to four hits as a team on the game.
Frank Margiotta reached base three times, going 1-for-2 with two walks while scoring for the Macs. Crowding picked up the other run for the Macs, going 1-for-3 with a double.
The Mighty Macs will return to action on Thursday as they travel to Rutgers-Camden for a 3:00 P.M. contest.
