Softball Falls to Wesley on Day Two of Atlantic East Tournament

DOVER, Del.- The Immaculata softball team returned to Wesley on Saturday morning to square off against the host Wesley Wolverines in another must-win game for the Macs. Immaculata once again opened the scoring to briefly hold a lead but Wesley used a big fifth inning to register a 10-1 comeback victory over the Macs.

In the top of the first, Wesley loaded the bases but starting pitcher Sara Guido worked out of trouble to send the game to the home half even at 0-0. In the home half, Immaculata threatened as well as Sara Rode got to third with just one out in the inning but Wesley worked out of danger to send the game to the second even at 0-0.

In the second inning, Immaculata loaded the bases, which allowed Guido who had pinch run for Paige Gerst to score via a single into center field to give the Macs an early 1-0 lead. Wesley countered with a quick two runs of its own during the top of the third to erase the early deficit and carry a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the third.

After a scoreless fourth inning, Wesley enjoyed a big fifth inning as the Wolverines exploded for eight runs on four hits and two errors to take a 10-1 lead, which following a scoreless bottom of the fifth led to the game ending after five innings with a 10-1 Wesley victory.

Guido got the start for Immaculata and pitched well surrendering five runs (four earned) over the course of four innings while walking three and striking out one. Kayley Peugh entered in relief of Guido and tossed the final inning surrendering five unearned runs on three hits in the setback.

Dori Loukopoulos got the start in the circle for Wesley, going the distance scattering just five hits and one run while walking two and striking out five in the victory.

This setback brings the Macs 2021 season to its conclusion.
