Sacco and Theisen Go 4-for-4 as Mighty Macs Advance in AEC Tournament

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Two batters went 4-for-4 as the Immaculata baseball team defeated Wesley 10-3 on Friday afternoon to advance in the Atlantic East Tournament. Ray Lutick pitched a complete game on the mound for the Mighty Macs.
 
After a scoreless first inning, the Mighty Macs broke the ice in the bottom of the second. Frank Margiotta reached base on a hit-by-pitch with one out. He then advanced to third base on a single into right-center field from Steven Theisen. Greg Dahl and Joe Sacco then hit back-to-back singles, scoring both Margiotta and Theisen for the Mighty Macs. Josh Crowding later wrapped up the inning for the Mighty Macs with a sacrifice fly into right field, scoring Dahl for the 3-0 lead.
 
In the top of the third, Wesley scored two runs, cutting the Immaculata lead to 3-2.
 
Margiotta reached base on a two-out single in the bottom of the third, advancing to second on an error by the left fielder. Theisen then hit a double into right field, scoring Margiotta as Immaculata increased their lead to 4-2.
 
Sacco led off the bottom of the fourth for the Mighty Macs with a single into left field. Kmiec then stepped up and smacked a home run into left field, scoring Sacco. Later in the inning, the bases were loaded with two outs when Theisen was hit by a pitch, scoring Crowding as the Mighty Macs led the Wolverines 7-2.
 
Next inning, Sacco slapped a solo home run of his own to increase the Mighty Macs' lead to 8-2.
 
Isaiah Payton hit a one-out double to kick off the bottom of the sixth. After a Margiotta ground-out moved Payton to third, Theisen hit a double down the left field line, scoring Payton to bolster Immaculata's lead to 9-2.
 
In the bottom of the seventh, Sacco recorded another lead-off single. Following a Kmiec walk and a fly-out, Sacco advanced to third base on a ground out from Richard Fontanillas. With Joey Wright up at the plate on a 1-2 count, Sacco and Kmiec executed a double-steal as Sacco stole home. Sacco scored prior to the pitch being delivered, a strikeout to end the inning. Sacco's run increased Immaculata's lead to 10-2.
 
A lead-off triple resulted in a run scored for Wesley in the top of the eighth as Immaculata led 10-3.
 
Ray Lutick threw a 111-pitch complete game for the Mighty Macs. Allowing three runs on eight hits, Lutick struck out six batters while walking only three.
 
Joe Sacco led the Mighty Macs' charge offensively today. Going 4-for-4 on the day, Sacco scored three runs and notched two RBI while hitting a solo home run and stealing home. Theisen also went 4-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored.
 
The Mighty Macs will continue their Atlantic East Tournament campaign tonight as they face the loser of the Marymount-Cabrini game slated to start at 3:15 p.m. Game time for the Mighty Macs' game tonight is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
