IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Mighty Macs were behind early but came back to win game two in extra innings as they split their double-header against the Neumann Knights on Friday.
The Knights came out of the gate swinging in game one, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first following a lead-off single to start the inning. In the bottom of the second, the Knights scored a runner from third while the Mighty Macs caught a runner stealing second base.
Neumann would add four additional runs to their lead over the course of the third and fourth innings to increase their lead to 8-0.
In the top of the fifth, the Mighty Macs' bats came alive.
Sarah Reed led off the inning with a walk, followed later by a walk from
Sara Rode.
Riece Onorato then hit an infield single to load the bases for the Mighty Macs.
Cat Knoll earned an RBI on a fielder's choice, scoring Reed. Rode was out at third on the play.
Keani Hindle was next to the plate and reached first on an error by the shortstop. With the bases loaded,
Paige Gerst smacked a single scoring Knoll and Onorato.
Laurna Heathcott wrapped up the inning's scoring for the Mighty Macs, scoring Hindle on a single up the middle. All in all, the Mighty Macs scored four runs on the inning, cutting the Knights' lead to 8-4.
Immaculata would not be able to score another run in the sixth or seventh innings as the game ended in a final score of 8-4.
Freshman
Laurna Heathcott went 2-for-3 on the game with one RBI for the Mighty Macs.
The Knights scored first to start game two. A strand of singles found Neumann with the bases loaded, allowing a single and subsequent walk to score two runs, giving Neumann an early 2-0 lead.
The score would remain 2-0 until the top of the sixth, when
Keani Hindle hit her fourth home run in the past few games, a solo shot, to cut the lead down to 2-1.
Down 2-1 heading into the top of the 7
th, the Mighty Macs found themselves with their backs to the wall.
Jess Oldham led off the inning with a double into left center field, putting the tying run in scoring position.
Carly Grandizio would then take over as the pinch-runner on the basepath for Oldham. Rode later came up with one out, hitting a single up the middle to move Grandizio into scoring position. With the runner at third, Onorato hit a sacrifice fly into left field, scoring Grandizio to tie the game up at 2-2.
After allowing one baserunner in the bottom of the seventh, the Mighty Macs forced extra innings, coming up to the plate in the top of the eighth. Hindle started off the inning with a single into left field. After a popout and a ground-out, Hindle was at second base with two outs.
Sarah Reed stepped up to the plate, rocketing a single through the third baseman's legs into left field, scoring Hindle to give the Mighty Macs a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the eighth, starting pitcher
Sarah Guido returned to the circle looking to close out the game. Guido allowed a lead-off walk but retired the next three batters on a fielder's choice and two fly outs to secure the eight-inning 3-2 victory for the Mighty Macs.
Guido threw an eight-inning complete game for the Mighty Macs, allowing two runs on six hits with one strikeout on the day.
At the plate, Hindle went 2-for-4 on the game for Immaculata, hitting a home run and scoring twice.
Immaculata will return to action tomorrow for the second half of their series against Neumann. The Mighty Macs will play host as the double-header is scheduled to start at 12:00 P.M.
