Baseball Rolls Past Neumann

ASTON, Pa.- The Immaculata baseball team took to the road on Friday afternoon to face Neumann in the first of a three-game weekend series vs the Knights. Immaculata got out to an early lead in the third inning and never relinquished this advantage en route to a 10-0 victory over the Knights on Friday afternoon.

Ryan Crowell got the start for Immaculata to open the three-game set tossing five scoreless innings scattering just three hits while striking out to earn his third victory of the season.

After a scoreless first two innings, Immaculata broke through for its first run of the game with two outs in the third as Joey Sacco laced an RBI single into left field to score Frank Margiotta who had reached on a single and advanced to second via a balk earlier in the inning. Sacco came around to score moments later on an RBI double off the bat of Tyler Kmiec to give Immaculata a 2-0 lead. Josh Crowding kept the line moving with an RBI double of his own down the left field line to score Kmiec and extend the Macs lead to 3-0 .

In the top of the fourth, Immaculata added to its lead as Joey Wright hit a solo home run to left center to make it 4-0 before Frank Margiotta came through with a bunt single down the third base line to plate Isaiah Payton, thus, extending the Macs lead to 5-0.

In the home half of the fourth, Neumann threatened as the Knights got runners on second and third with no outs in the inning but Crowell was able to work out of danger to keep the Knights scoreless heading to the fifth inning.

In the home half of the fifth, Neumann threatened once again with runners on second and third and just one out but Crowell was able to work out of danger once more to keep the shutout going heading to the sixth.

In the seventh inning, Immaculata extended its lead following a successful double steal, which saw Kmiec steal home as Crowding stole third to give the visiting Macs a 6-0 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh.

Alex Singer entered in relief of Crowell in the sixth inning tossing 1.2 scoreless innings scattering just two hits before being relieved by Steven Lombardi who entered and walked each of his two batters before being relieved by Chris Huyette. Huyette struck out the first batter he faced on four pitches to help strand a pair of runners and send the game to the eighth inning with the Macs still out in front 6-0.

In the top of the eighth, Immaculata extended its lead via a sacrifice fly off the bat of Crowding, which scored Margiotta to move the score to 7-0 in favor of the Macs. Richard Fontanillas further extended the Macs lead moments later with an RBI double to right center to score Sacco and Kmiec to give Immaculata a commanding 9-0 lead.

In the top of the ninth, Immaculata scored its 10th and final run of the contest when Frank Margiotta singled to left to score Isaiah Payton to add to the Macs lead.
