Men's Swimming Defeats Marywood to Open Season

SCRANTON, Pa.- The Immaculata men's swim team returned to action on Saturday afternoon on the road for a dual meet against Marywood. Immaculata registered a 95-69 victory over Marywood to open the season, after capturing eight of the 12 events on the afternoon.

Immaculata started its day with a victory in the 200-medley relay turning in a time of 2:08.02 to start its afternoon in the pool. Freshman Jeremy Brown followed this up with his first collegiate victory moments later in the 1000-free with a time of 12:35.83, which was over 30 seconds faster than the second-place finisher from Marywood. This swim also goes as the third fastest time in program history for the freshman.

In the 200 free, Kevin Lyons continued the trend for the Macs as he logged his first collegiate victory as well touching the wall in 1:56.15, which was also the second fastest time in program history.
Daniel Thiel took the 100-back in a time of 1:23.80 for his first collegiate victory as well. Marchello Barile followed this up with his first win in the 100-breast with a time of 1:21.20.

Joseph Duddy also logged a win on the afternoon in the 50-free with a time of 25.25 while Thiel touched the wall in fourth with a time of 27.61.

Lyons registered his second victory of the afternoon in the 100-free with a record-setting time of 53.13 while Barile finished third with a time of 1:14.84. In the 200-breast, Barile turned in another strong performance, touching the wall in 3:12.92 to finish second in this event.

Immaculata recorded its final eighth and final victory of the afternoon in the 200-IM as Lyons picked up another win with a time of 2:16.90 for his third win of the afternoon, which was also the second fastest time in program history.

In the 500 free, Brown turned in another strong effort with a time of 5:54.08 to finish second while also registering the second fastest time in team history in this event as well.

In the 100-fly, Duddy registered a second-place finish of his own with a time of 1:05.66.

In what was the final event of the day for the Macs, the 200-free relay, Immaculata finished in second with a time of 1:50.25.

Immaculata will look to build off its momentum from this afternoon's impressive performance on Monday evening as the Macs will return to action with a shorter road trip as the team heads to Cabrini with that meet set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
