LANCASTER, Pa.-In search of its first win of the young season, the Immaculata women's lacrosse team took to the road on Wednesday afternoon to square off against the Lancaster Bible Chargers. Immaculata opened the game with a 4-0 run and never looked back as the team rolled to a 14-7 victory over Lancaster Bible for its first win of the season and first of Head Coach
Nicole Barretta's career as a head coach.
Kaitlyn Klitchko opened the scoring just over one minute into the contest, which gave the Macs the early 1-0 cushion. This lead grew less than a minute later as
Liza Laxton scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from
Ashley Hankin to stretch the lead to 2-0. Immaculata continued to grow its lead as
Maddy Terry and
Maura Murray each found the back of the net with unassisted goals over the next minute and a half to give Immaculata an early 4-0 lead.
With 25:29 to play in the first half, Lancaster Bible responded with its first goal of the game to make the score 4-1.
Ashley Hankin answered quickly for the Macs with a goal of her own off an assist from Klitchko to stretch the lead back to four goals (5-1). Just under four minutes later, Lancaster Bible scored its second goal of the contest to make the score 5-2. With just under 10 minutes to play in the first half, Immaculata went on another 4-0 run with goals from
Tessa Liberatoscioli, Klitchko, Laxton, and
Mary McKinney to claim a 9-2 with five minutes to play in the first half.
Lancaster Bible added another goal with 4:30 to play before halftime, but Liberatoscioli scored her second of the first half and fourth of the year with 41 seconds to play in the half off an assist from Murray, which gave the Macs a commanding 10-3 lead at the halftime break.
Lancaster Bible opened the second half scoring just 51 seconds in to make the score 10-4 before
Ashley Hankin responded with her second and third goals of the game to give Immaculata a 12-4 advantage. The host Chargers would score again with 14:31 to play in the half, making the score 12-5 before Klitchko responded with her fourth and team-leading fifth goals of the year, with her fifth tally coming off an assist from
Maura Murray to give the Mighty Macs a 13-5 advantage.
The Chargers found the back of the net twice in the final six minutes of regulation to trim the deficit to 14-7, but Immaculata was able to cruise to the 14-7 road victory.
As a team, Immaculata outshot its hosts 41-15, including a 28-11 edge in shots on goal.
The Macs also ended the game with an 11-6 advantage in turnovers. Immaculata was also effective in its clearing attempts ending the game with an impressive 20-of-23 on clears. Additionally, Immaculata ended the game with a 19-18 edge in ground balls and a 12-11 edge in draw controls led by a five ground-ball effort from
Molly Gallagher and four draw controls from Murray.
Offensively, Klitchko was the leading scorer for the Macs ending the day with four goals and one assist for five points on the afternoon, while Hankin registered three goals of her own and an assist for four points of her own in the victory. Liberatoscioli, Murray, and Laxton all ended with three points, while McKinney and Terry ended with two points and one point, respectively. In addition to her offensive contributions, Liberatoscioli finished the night with a team-best two-caused turnovers while also scooping a pair of ground balls to help Immaculata achieve its first victory the young season.
Between the pipes,
Katie Mulvey earned her second career start ending the contest with four saves and a pair of ground balls to help slow the Lancaster Bible offense.
Immaculata will return to action on Saturday afternoon with its second consecutive road game against NJAC foe Rowan beginning at 1 p.m. to conclude its non-conference slate.
