First Inning Proves Costly against No. 23 Rowan

IMMACULATA, Pa.- Facing it's second top 25 opponent in as many games, Immaculata fell 4-0 to No. 23 Rowan on Thursday afternoon. The Profs used a three run first inning to move to 2-0 while the Macs move to 2-4 before its spring break trip.

Domenic Dellabarba led Immaculata with two hits while Josh Crowding, Richard Fontanillas and Coy Walters had one hit apiece for the Mighty Macs. Immaculata used eight pitchers in the contest and limited Rowan to only five hits.

Rowan got things started in the first inning with three runs, not allowing starter Chris Huyette to escape the opening frame. Ryan McIssac led off with a walk and was sacrificed to second on a bunt.

Huyette was able to get a strikeout of Alex Kokos, but Mitch Walker delivered a two-out RBI with a single up the middle to give Rowan the 1-0 lead. Following a walk, Luis Flores entered for Huyette. Flores was greeted by Trip McCaffrey with a two RBI triple as the Profs led 3-0.

Rowan tacked on a run in the fourth with the help of a miscue by Immaculata. The Profs used a two out rally as Jared Marks came around to score on a misplayed flair, giving Rowan a 4-0 lead after four innings.

Immaculata threatened in the bottom of the sixth with a two out rally. Joey Wright reached on an error while Richard Fontanillas followed with a single up the middle, putting runners on the corners for Josh Crowding. He barreled the ball to second base but Kokos made a nice play to retire the side.

That would be as close as Immaculata would come to scoring as Drew Ryback earned the win for the Profs by throwing seven scoreless innings with eight punchouts. Reliever Zach Listro kept the shutout in tact with four strikeouts in two innings of work.

Stephen DiBatista led the bullpen effort and went two innings with two strikeouts while Pierce Rucci wiggiled out of trouble with 1.1 hitless innings and struck out two.

Immaculata now focuses to the spring break trip and will head down to Fort Pierce, Florida and will face University of Northwestern on Saturday at 7 p.m.
