Hindle Homers Twice, Drives in Seven in Doubleheader Split at Widener

CHESTER, Pa. - Keani Hindle homered twice - including a grand slam - and drove in seven over the course of a four-hit game two to lead the Immaculata University softball team to a doubleheader split with an 11-0 victory at Widener Monday afternoon. Emma Bischoff tossed a complete-game, five-hit shutout in the circle while striking out eight to pick up her third win of the season.

The Macs dropped the opener of Monday's twinbill to the Pride, 2-0, despite six strong innings from Jess Bormann who did not allow an earned run over her outing.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Widener plated the lone two runs of Monday's opener in the bottom of the second when an infield error resulted in a two-run home run for the Pride to take their only lead of the game.
-Jess Bormann settled in nicely from then on, working in and out trouble to keep the Pride scoreless over the next four innings while picking up a pair of strikeouts in a hard-fought outing for the senior.
-The Macs were unable to get a runner in scoring position from the second innings on after Abby Carter led off with a single and stole second, allowing Widener to take game one, 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-The Macs struck quickly in the nightcap as Carter again reached on a leadoff knock before moving up to third on a pair of ground outs. Hindle then plated Carter with a two-out single to right to get IU on the board.
-Widener appeared poised to answer right back in the home half of the first by loading the bases with one out, but Bischoff stranded all three runners via a ground out and infield pop out to hold onto the early one-run lead.
-After both sides were set down in order in the second, the Macs erupted for a five-run third inning to take a commanding six-run lead. Emily Mesey led off the frame with a double to right-center before moving up to third on Carter's bunt single. Following an infield error to plate Mesey and an Ashley Rey single to load the bases with no outs, Keani Hindle lifted a grand slam to left to break open the contest.
-Hindle followed up the big hit the very next inning with a solo homer to left-center - her fourth in as many games.
-The Macs added four more in the top of the sixth to put the game out of reach, sending ten to the plate highlighted by Hindle's two-run double and run-scoring singles to right off the bats of Sydney Sturgill and Tori Fortuna.
-Bischoff allowed only four hits over the final five innings of her complete-game effort in the circle, allowing no runs while striking out eight en route to her third win of the season.
