MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Mighty Macs continued their winning ways on day two of their spring break trip to Myrtle Beach as they defeated SUNY Poly (1-4) by a score of 8-1, and followed that with a 3-1 victory over Spalding (5-2). The Mighty Macs have surrendered only two runs through their first four games.
The Mighty Macs used three multi-run innings to back strong performances on the mound from sophomore
Renee DeAngelis and senior
Jessica Bormann in the first game, and in the nightcap, sophomore
Emma Bischoff notched her first complete game of the year to back a two extra base hit game from sophomore
Keani Hindle.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
-Each team had a couple early threats, but it was the Macs who broke through with two in the bottom of the third
-Sophomore
Abigail Carter singled and freshman
Katy Newton walked and each stole a bag to put two in scoring position with nobody out. Junior
Ashley Rey hit a sacrifice fly to score one and Newton scored on a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0 IU
-With the help of a double play, DeAngelis escaped any trouble to preserve the lead in the fourth before IU piled on
-The Macs scored a couple of unearned runs off the bat of Carter, and Rey brought home two more with a triple and the Macs led 6-0
-Bormann came on in relief and worked around a few base runners despite allowing an unearned run before retiring the side in order in the sixth
-IU added two more in the bottom of the sixth on an error off the bat of Newton and an RBI walk by junior

-Bormann mixed in a pair of strikeouts in the seventh to close out the win

-Bischoff started the game very well with five strikeouts in the first three innings and the Macs pounded in their half of the third again with a couple of runs after junior
Kayla Sponsel singled, Newton reached on an error, and Rey singled
-Bischoff sent Spalding down in order in the fourth and their next threat didn't come until the sixth. They scored one on a single with nobody out, but the Macs cut down the tying run at the plate to preserve a 2-1 lead
-IU tacked on a pivotal insurance run in the sixth on an RBI single by freshman
Cat Knoll to score Hindle, who doubled to lead off the inning
