GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa.- The No. 3 Immaculata softball team (26-14) started off the double-elimination portion of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship in fine fashion as they defeated No. 2 Cabrini (23-10) by a score of 4-0.
Â
Junior
Jessica Bormann ran her scoreless inning streak up to 20 as she tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just five hits and striking out five. Freshman
Keani Hindle drove in all four runs for the Mighty Macs.
Â
With the win, the Mighty Macs will take on No. 1 Gwynedd Mercy at 4 p.m. for a chance to play for a CSAC Championship on Saturday.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Bormann cruised through the first two innings and received a quick boost as senior
Annemarie Bartow led off the second with a double and Hindle followed with a double to right-center and the Macs led 1-0 through two
-Bormann gave up her first hit of the day in the third, but stranded the runner at second after a nice running catch by sophomore
LeighAnn Brocious, and she then retired the side in the fourth to keep it at a 1-0 lead through four
-The Mighty Macs loaded the bases in the fifth on three consecutive errors, and following two fly-outs that didn't score runs, Hindle delivered the biggest hit of the game with a bases clearing triple over the right fielder's head and a 4-0 IU lead
-The Cavaliers had their best threat in the sixth, but the Macs made a nice defensive play to cut down a runner at third to silence a threat as the Macs did not allow a baserunner to get to third the entire game
-Bormann retired the side in order in the seventh on two strikeouts to finish off the victory
