Mighty Macs Historic Season Comes To An End

PITTSFORD, N.Y.- The historic season for the Immaculata softball (28-16) team came to an end on Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Rochester Regional with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Mount St. Mary's (NY) (21-15) in an elimination game.  The loss marks the end of the season for the Mighty Macs in which they claimed their first conference crown in program history and went to their first NCAA Tournament ever.

The Mighty Macs struggled offensively as they were unable to get anything going, and mustered one hit off the bat of sophomore Emily Mesey.

Freshman Emma Bischoff was fantastic in the circle for the Mighty Macs in a complete game effort, surrendering just one run in the seventh inning of a scoreless contest.

Today also marked the final game in the storied career of senior shortstop Annemarie Bartow, who set several records in program history over her four seasons.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Mighty Macs were the home team in this contest, and both pitchers were outstanding early on as neither allowed a hit through four innings, and Bischoff allowed just one runner with a two-out walk in the fourth
-In the fifth, the Knights put two runners on with two outs on a single and walk, but Bischoff induced a pop up to sophomore first baseman Michaela Petito to end the threat
-In the bottom of the inning, Bartow hit a line drive to center field to lead off the inning, but it was tracked down and the Macs went in order
-Both sides went down 1-2-3 in the sixth, and the Knights finally broke the scoreless tie in the seventh
-A lead-off single and sacrifice bunt moved the runner to second, and a fly out to right was secured for the second out.  However, back-to-back singles followed and the Knights took the lead
-Mesey led off the Mighty Mac seventh with a bloop single to center field, but back-to-back outs left Mesey at first with two outs for Bartow.  Bartow skied a fly ball to right-center that nearly got down, but the rightfielder tracked it down to end the game and the Mighty Mac season
