Kennedy, Whaley Net 100th Career Goals; Macs Extend Win Streak to Five

IMMACULATA, Pa. - Senior Brittany Whaley and sophomore Layne Kennedy each reached the 100 goal plateau of their careers Monday night as the Immaculata University women's lacrosse team cruised to its fifth-straight victory over visiting Wesley, 17-10.

Kennedy netted a game-high seven goals to reach the milestone in just her sophomore season, while freshman Maura Murray added four of her own to lead the Macs offensively.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Rosemarie Reitman got things started for Immaculata, netting the game's first goal within the first two minutes. Following Wesley's equalizer moments later, the Macs tore off a 12-2 run to end the half.
-Layne Kennedy tallied three consecutive goals for IU, completing her hat trick at the 21:44 mark of the opening half. Following a Hannah Verrecchia tally a mere 20 seconds after Kennedy's third, the sophomore netted her fourth of the night, giving her four in a four minute stretch.
-Anna DiDonato gave the Macs their sixth straight goal of the run, stretching the lead to 7-1. After another Kennedy tally - her fifth in the early going - Maura Murray got on the board with her first of the night, extending the lead to eight.
-With 7:55 remaining in the first half, Kennedy netted her sixth goal of the night to raise her career total to an even 100. Less than three minutes later, Brittany Whaley also eclipsed the 100-goal plateau with her first goal of the night.
-After going into halftime with a ten-goal lead, Kennedy scored her seventh and final goal at the 26:20 mark of the second half. Although Wesley scored back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to nine, Verrecchia and Murray each netted goals to stretch the lead back out to 11.
-Wesley would score four goals in a row of its own to get within seven, but it was as close as the Wolverines would get on the night as Murray added the final IU goal at the 1:39 mark on an assist from Kennedy to give her eight points in the 17-10 victory.
-Goalie Lex Goerlach made seven saves in net en route to her fifth-straight victory since taking over the post.
