Macs Complete Second Sweep in as Many Days at Notre Dame

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Immaculata University softball team extended its win streak to four Thursday - and maintained its unblemished Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) record - with a road doubleheader sweep at Notre Dame of Maryland in a pair of shutouts, 13-0 and 16-0. Jessica Bormann and Emma Bischoff each tossed complete-game shutouts in the circle for the Macs, and Keani Hindle capped off IU's big offensive day at the plate with a two home run game, including a grand slam in game two.

With the twin bill sweep, the Macs even their record at 8-8 on the season with a 4-0 mark in CSAC play.

GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED

-The Macs jumped all over the Gators from the onset of game one Thursday, striking for six runs in the top of the first. After Abigail Carter scored on a passed ball and Keani Hindle reached on an error to drive in a run, Michaela Petito roped a two-run single to left to score two. Jessica Bormann and Emily Mesey capped off the opening frame with run-scoring singles, extending the lead to 6-0.
-IU was back at it in the second inning, as Annemarie Bartow led off with a single to center and came around to score on a Hindle double to plate the seventh run of the game. Moriah Hunter made it an eight-run advantage with an RBI groundout to score Petito.
-After the Macs tacked on a run in the third to make it a nine-run game, Morgan Macrae extended the lead to double digits in the top of the fourth with a run-scoring single to left before Renee DeAngelis delivered a pinch-hit RBI two batters later.
-Victortia Post put the game well out of reach with a pinch-hit, two-run double to cap off the four-run fourth as the Macs cruised to the game one win.
-Bormann limited Notre Dame to only three hits in the complete-game effort while striking out seven to pick up her fourth win of the season.

GAME 2
HOW IT HAPPENED

-The Macs carried over their offensive onslaught into the nightcap, pushing across ten runs in the first three innings. Hindle got things started in the top of the first with a two-run home run, before Casey Manera plated the third run of the frame with a run-scoring single to left.
-IU continued to build its lead in the top of the second with a four-run frame, beginning with Ashley Rey's sac fly to right to score Carter from third. With one away in the inning, Sydney Sturgill plated Kayla Sponsel with a single to right, extending the early advantage to seven.
-Immaculata broke the nightcap wide open with a three-run third, as Rey, pinch-hitter Paige Gerst and Sponsel all plated runs in the inning.
-The Macs finished off the afternoon with a six-run fourth, highlighted by Hindle's second home run of the game - a one-out grand slam - to push the lead to 16.
-Starting pitcher Emma Bischoff retired the first 12 batters she faced en route to her fourth win of the season, as a leadoff single in the fifth was the only blemish that stood between her and a no-hitter. The freshman finished with seven strikeouts in the complete-game effort.
