Eighth Inning Dooms Macs at Stevenson

STEVENSON, Md. - The Immaculata baseball team rallied from an eight-run deficit to tie Stevenson (4-3) at ten in the seventh inning of Wednesday's non-conference tilt, but a four-run bottom of the eighth for the Mustangs ultimately downed the Macs, 14-10. The Macs pounded out 12 hits in the effort, led by sophomore catcher Tyler Kmiec's 3-for-3 day at the plate with a pair of doubles and two runs scored.

Justin Dempsey and Brad Misialek each had a pair of hits and drove in a run.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Macs struck first in the top of the first when Dempsey lined a two-out double to right and came around to score on Kmiec's first hit of the day - a single to right.
-Stevenson moved a runner up to third in the bottom half of the first, but Tim Newell induced a lineout and groundout to end the threat.
-IU manufactured its second run of the day in the second when Connor Blesi reached on an error and was moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt from Cameron Delisle. Misialek took care of the rest, singling to left center to score Blesi and making it a 2-0 game.
-Stevenson responded in the bottom of the third with a three-run frame to take the lead, sparked by a two-run home run off the bat of John D'Aquanno.
-After holding the Macs scoreless over the next two frames, the Mustangs exploded for seven runs on five hits to take a 10-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth. Stevenson sent 11 men to the plate in the inning, and benefited from two hit batters and a walk along with two extra-base hits.
-The Macs answered right away with four runs in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit in half. With the bases loaded and out, Richard Fontanillas delivered a two-run single to left and Delisle and Dempsey followed suit with RBI base knocks of their own.
-IU continued to claw its way back in the top of the sixth, as Greyson Avots led off with a walk and moved up to third on Kmiec's double to right. Fontanillas brought Avots in on an RBI groundout before a failed pickoff attempt allowed Kmiec to score all the way from second, making it a 10-8 game.
-Gabe Hollenbach was crucial for the Macs in relief, working in-and-out of trouble to keep Stevenson off the board in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to keep the momentum on IU's side.
-In the top of the seventh and IU trailing by two, Misialek led off with a single and was sacrificed to second by Pat Devenney. After consecutive hit batters to load the bases, Dempsey lined a single to left to bring in Misialek and Kmiec completed the comeback with a sac fly to right, tying the game at ten.
-In the bottom of the eighth, Stevenson put the game away for good at Immaculata pitchers struggled to get out of the inning, resulting in four runs on just two hits.
