Immaculata Celebrates Student-Athletes At Annual Sports Banquet

IMMACULATA, Pa.-
The Immaculata University Athletic Department held its annual end-of-year athletic banquet on Sunday afternoon in Alumnae Hall to honor the 47 senior student-athletes as well as those student-athletes who received All-CSAC, all-academic and weekly awards during the 2014-15 year.
 
Highlighting the banquet festivities were the presentations of the most outstanding male and female senior athlete and the most outstanding male and female senior scholar-athlete awards.  Sara Smith was named Immaculata's most outstanding female senior athlete, while Christiana Donofry was selected as the most outstanding female scholar-athlete.  Mamadou Diakite was the honored as Immaculata's most outstanding male senior athlete, and Xavier Brown took home the most outstanding male senior scholar-athlete.
 
Smith was a two-year captain and four-year member of the women's basketball team at Immaculata.  She appeared in 104 games, starting 79 of them, and scored 1,195 points which places her 11th in women's basketball history.  She was a three-time All-CSAC performer as she was named Honorable Mention All-CSAC her sophomore season, Second Team All-CSAC her junior season, and First Team All-CSAC this past season.  She was a two-time member of the CSAC All-Academic Team as well.  She became the 22nd player in program history to reach 1,000 points for her career earlier this season, and she was named to the CSAC Weekly Honor Roll on six occasions, and was CSAC Player of the Week once.  She had nine double-doubles in her career and helped lead the Mighty Macs to back-to-back championship game appearances her final two seasons.  Overall, she shot 46% from the field, 79% from the free throw line, had 170 career assists, 611 rebounds, and 141 steals.
 
Donofry, an Exercise Science major with a minor in Sports Management, is a two-sport athlete who played four years of softball and ran cross country for two seasons.  She is a member of the Phi Epislon Kappa and Immaculata University Honor Societies.  She earned a place on the Dean's list seven times and was noted in "Who's Who Among College Students" in 2014.  She is currently a Resident Assistant, a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, and is an Admissions Ambassador.  She is the president of the exercise science club, was a First Year Experience mentor, a New Student Orientation leader, and serves as a lector and extraordinary minister at Immaculata.  She is also a member of Campus Ministry, participated in the New Orleans service project in 2013 and is part of an after school tutoring program at St. Pat's.  She was named to the CSAC Spring All-Academic Team three times, an NFCA scholar athlete once, once to the CSAC Fall All-Academic Team, and a member of the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team in 2014.
 
She was a captain of the cross country team this past season and currently serves as a captain of the softball team.  She recently eclipsed the 100-hit mark for her career and is a .287 hitter for her career.  She has 86 runs scored, 42 runs batted in, and is having a career year this season with a .371 average and 39 hits.
 
Diakite was a two-year member of the men's basketball and a team captain this past year.  He was a two-time All-CSAC performer on the Second Team All-CSAC both his junior and senior season.  He helped lead the men's basketball team to the CSAC Quarterfinals each of the past two seasons.  He was named CSAC Player of the Week on three different occasions and was recognized with the Sam Cozen Player of the Week award earlier this year by the Philadelphia Area Small College Coaches' Association.  For his career, he played in 52 games with 46 starts, and he finished seventh in team history with 678 points and fifth in rebounds with 423.  He collected 17 double-doubles, and shot over 50% for his career as he led the team in shooting each of the past two years.  He scored over 20 points in nine different games and led the team in rebounding, free throws, and blocks over the last two years. 
 
Brown, a Psychology major with a minor in Sports Communication, was a two-year player on the men's basketball team.  He is a member of the Gates Millennium Scholars, the Gates Millennium Scholars Foundation, the Gates Millennium Ambassadors, Who's Who In Students In America's Colleges & Universities, IU Psi Chi Chapter, Kappa Gamma Pi, and Delta Epsilon Sigma.  He earned the IU Faculty Scholarship, the IU Wilson Goode Scholarship, while earning Dean's List on two occasions and being the student representative on the IU Male Success Initiative.
 
In the community, Brown has participated in the following projects: the Gates Millennium Imitative Bridge Builders Conference, Chosen 300 Ministries Feeding The Community Program, Project H.O.M.E. Program, Autism Walk, and the Lupus Walk.
 
Athletically, Brown was named to the CSAC Sportsmanship team this past year, and was a one-time selection to the CSAC Winter All-Academic Team.  Brown's best season was 2012-13 when he averaged 8.2 points per game and shot 46% from the field in 17 games.
 
Others honored on Sunday were Immaculata's All-CSAC selections, CSAC weekly award winners, Mighty Mac of the Week honorees, CSAC Sportsmanship Award winners, and the all-academic team members.  In all, Immaculata celebrated the achievements of all the student-athletes during the past year for their play and in the classroom.
