Josh Copskey is in his fourth season as the Mighty Macs' head baseball coach in 2025.
During his tenure, Copskey has transformed the program into a top contender in the Atlantic East Conference (AEC), winning its second consecutive conference regular season title as well as its second consecutive AEC tournament championship. Copskey has led his Mighty Macs, twice now, to a program best in wins accumulating 29. He is responsible for guiding the program to their first AEC conference championship and has brought two NCAA regional tournament appearances to the program. The 2022 campaign was especially unique to the program as the Mighty Macs played host to its first ever NCAA regional tournament of a four-team regional.
In 2023 Copskey led his Mighty Macs to 29 wins and 13 losses. The 29 wins ties the school record for single season wins held previously by Copskey's 2022 Mighty Mac program. For the second year in a row his program won the regular season title and the Atlantic East Conference Championship. Also, for the second year in a row he and his coaching staff won the Atlantic East Conference "Coaching Staff Of The Year" award as well as the program advancing into the NCAA regional tournament. In 2023 Copskey oversaw several program records take place as well as see many of his student athletes earn Conference, Regional, and National Awards. The Mighty Macs earned the ABCA Academic Excellence award for a second year in a row while earning a 3.0 or higher as a program for the year.
For a second consecutive year pitcher Jason Hughes was named Atlantic East Conference Pitcher of the Year. Josh Crowding was named Atlantic East Conference Player of the Year. Hughes, Crowding, Ryan Crowell, and Joey Wright all earned All-Conference First Team Selections. Stephen DiBatista, Joey Sacco, Steven Thiesen, Frank Margiotta, Mason Keller, and Trevor Wagner all earned All-Conference Second Team Honors. Hughes was named Region Five Pitcher of the Year, Region Five First Team All-Region, and Second Team All-America by both ACBA/Rawlings and D3Baseball.com. Crowding was named to Region Five Second Team All-Region by both ACBA/Rawlings and D3Baseball.com. Battista was named to the Region Five All-Region Third Team by ACBA/Rawlings. Crowding was named All-Area Academic Co-Player of the Year by the Philadelphia Sports Information Directors Association (PhillySida). Justin Klemick was awarded an Atlantic East Conference Medal of Inspiration.
On May 11, 2022, Copskey earned his 100th collegiate victory as a head coach with a 2-0 victory over conference rival Marymount. On May 13th, 2022, Copskey’s Mighty Macs defeated Marymount University 5-1 in the AEC title game claiming Immaculata’s first conference tournament championship title. This qualified Immaculata for their first NCAA regional appearance.
The 2022 version of the Mighty Macs finished their campaign going 1-2 in the NCAA regional. After losing game one of the regional tournament to Keystone 7-5, in a thrilling game, the Mighty Macs found themselves having to come out of the loser’s bracket. In an elimination game, the Macs second game of the tournament, Copskey was able to lead his team to a 9-5 victory over the Montclair State Red Hawks to eliminate them from the regional tournament. In their third and final game of the regional tournament the Mighty Macs ran into Keystone again and lost in a nail biter 6-5 ending the historic season for the program.
The 2022 campaign saw both regional and national attention as well. Copskey was named AEC Coach of the Year. The program was honored by receiving the ABCA academic excellence award. Under Copskey’s watch both Jason Hughes and Trevor Wagner received first team All-Region honors. Hughes received conference pitcher of the year honors. Hughes, along with Wagner, Mason Keller, Josh Crowding, and Frank Margiotta all received first team All-Conference honors.
Copskey, the holder of a 132-71 career record, has been a head coach for 6 years, leading two different programs to conference titles, single season program winning records, and NCAA regional births. During his time at the helm of the Penn State Abington Nittany Lions, Copskey led the team to unprecedented success as they set a program record for wins in 2018 with 25 before winning the first Conference Championship in program history in 2019 at the conclusion of his second season at the helm. This 2019 Championship also enabled the Nittany Lions to make their first NCAA Regional appearance in program history. A season ago, Copskey's charges were nationally ranked for six weeks in a row while also holding the top spot in the NCAA Regional Rankings in back-to-back weeks. In addition to their on-field successes under Copskey's tutelage, Penn State-Abington also received the American Baseball Coaches Association Academic Excellence award in each of the last two seasons (2020 and 2021).
In addition to his on-field coaching duties as the head coach at Penn State-Abington, Copskey served as the team's recruiting coordinator while also interfacing with Abington Township to share field maintenance duties. Copskey has also shared in game management responsibilities for other home events at PSU-Abington. While at Penn State-Abington, Copskey has also successfully placed student-athletes in highly competitive summer leagues, including the ACBL, Valley League, Sunbelt League, and ACCBL.
Before he arrived in Abington, Copskey served as the Head Assistant Coach at Rutgers-Camden from August 2012 until July 2017, serving as the Scarlet Raptors recruiting coordinator while also helping to lead the team to back-to-back NJAC Regular Season titles in 2014 and 2015 and the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance in team history at the end of the 2014 season.
Before and during his time with Rutgers-Camden, Copskey also served as an assistant coach with the Brooklawn American Legion team, helping to guide the team to five-straight American Legion World Series appearances (2011-15), including a pair of Championships in 2013 and 2014.
Copskey got his start in collegiate head coaching in 2004 when he served as an assistant coach at Rider University as the Pitching Coach and Assistant Recruiting and Camp Marketing Coordinator for the Broncs for the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
A 2004 graduate of Siena College, Copskey was a 2001 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Rookie team selection following a standout freshman season, which saw him register five victories, which stands as the fifth highest among freshman in program history. In addition to his impressive rookie season, Copskey still ranks among the top pitchers in Saints history as he ranks in a tie for 10th all-time in appearances (56), while his 4.00 strikeout to walks ratio and 1.28 walks per nine in the 2004 season rank him seventh and fourth in single-season history, respectively. Copskey also ranks fourth in program history in innings pitched as a freshman, having logged 70.1 innings over his 2001 rookie season.
Copskey’s coaching tree: Two former assistant coaches and two former players of his have found their way in collegiate baseball as head coaches. The list includes Joe Brooks (Gwynedd Mercy) and Joe Dimento (Penn State Abington).
