IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata's women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to Penn State Berks on Tuesday, Sept. 30, in the Mighty Macs final non-conference match of the 2008 season. Immaculata captured two of three doubles matches and two singles victories in the loss.
Senior Margaret Kelley collected her seventh straight singles win at the No. 1 position to improve her overall record to 8-3 after a 6-2, 6-0 triumph against PSU Berks' Nicole Cresswell. Erika LaMarch captured the point at No. 3 singles, downing Aimee Hoffman, 6-4, 6-4.
Kelley and Amanda Wilson captured their second doubles win of the season at the No. 1 position as the duo collected an 8-3 decision against the Nittany Lions' Hoffman and Holly Woodock. The Mighty Macs' LaMarch and Felicia Thomas cruised to an 8-0 win at the No. 2 position.
Wilson earned a 7-5 first-set win at No. 2 singles against Ashley Averbach before suffering a 6-1 setback in the second set and lost in the tie-breaker 10-4. Thomas dropped 6-3, 6-2 sets to Woodcock at fourth singles, and Katherine Boyle rounded out the Immaculata lineup at No. 5 singles by falling to Ashton Romero, 6-1, 7-5.
Penn State Berks picked up the No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles position on Immaculata defaults.
Immaculata (1-10, 1-4 CSAC) gets back to its conference slate on Thursday, Oct. 2, hosting Cabrini at 3:30 p.m.
