LEXINGTON, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced that Immaculata University's volleyball team was one of 684 teams to earn the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2013-14 academic year. It marks the fifth-straight year that the Mighty Macs have been honored with the award.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale.

Immaculata's academic success during the 2013 season was also demonstrated with 13 of its team members being selected to the CSAC Fall All-Academic Team. Marissa Casella, Alanna Garvey, Stephanie Johler, Tess Kieffer, Allison Lang, Colleen Martin, Rebecca McDonald, Alexandra Okor, Andrea Okoro, Jamie Rombach, Brittany Thompson, Molly Truitt and Julie Wieland were all honored for their academic achievement by the league.

Immaculata was one of 129 NCAA Division III women's volleyball programs to receive the honor this season, and one of an AVCA-record 684 teams overall. Immaculata was the only school from the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) to receive the AVCA Team Academic Award.
